Happy rescue anniversary to Mo & Ella

This week we celebrated Mo and Ella’s rescue anniversary. These fab ladies have now been residents at the sanctuary for one year, free from exploitation!

Mo and Ella where both used as dairy cows and met each other a few months before coming to the sanctuary whilst they were at a livestock market. Both Mo and Ella were brought by a farmer in the hope he could get them to calf again. As neither fell pregnant, they couldn’t produce milk for human consumption so the farmer set their slaughter date for the February the 8th, 2021!

A big thank you to Fear to Freedom Animal Rescue, thanks to whom Mo and Ella did not end up on the journey to the slaughterhouse to end their lives, but on a route heading to the sanctuary.

The girls are the sweetest and are so full of character. These confident and loving girls are always the first to greet you, with Mo always waiting patiently for fresh hay in the morning. Both these lovely ladies have really helped our older female cows come out of their shells too!

In the past year, Mo and Ella have been grazing, chilling in the sun (in summer Ella loves eating fresh apples from the apple tree), making friends (Mo was especially excited when we had the arrival of more cows last year), and having lots of fuss, cuddles and scratches from our amazing volunteers.

Mo and Ella will continue to live out their happy days at the sanctuary!
